A panel upgrade is one of the most common projects we do — most NYC homes built before 1980 have 60-amp or 100-amp services that simply cannot handle the modern electrical load: central A/C, EV chargers, electric ranges, microwaves, washer/dryer, multiple TVs and computers, and home office equipment. Most upgrades go from 100A to 200A. For larger homes, additions, or commercial spaces, we go to 400A. We also replace old fuse boxes (still found in many older NYC homes) with modern circuit breaker panels.

We handle the entire process: NYC Department of Buildings permit, coordination with Con Edison for the meter pull and reconnect, the actual panel replacement (typically 6-8 hours of work), DOB inspection, and final certification. For most single-family homes the total downtime is one day. For multi-family buildings, we coordinate with the building management to minimize disruption to neighbors.

Specific scenarios we handle frequently: 100A → 200A residential upgrade, fuse box → breaker panel replacement, breaker brand replacement (Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels are known fire hazards — we recommend replacing both), sub-panel installation for additions or basements, smart panel installation (Span, Lumin) for energy monitoring and EV charging.
