A/C Electrical — Window, Mini-Split, and Central

A/C electrical is a recurring NYC need — most of the city's housing stock wasn't built for modern A/C loads, and adding even a single window unit on an undersized circuit is a classic cause of breaker trips, hot outlets, and (in worst cases) fires. We do A/C electrical for window units, through-wall units, mini-split systems, and central A/C.

For window units, the most common issue is that the existing outlet and circuit can't handle the unit's load. A 12,000+ BTU window A/C draws significant current and should ideally be on a dedicated 20-amp circuit. We install dedicated A/C circuits — including running new wire from the panel to the desired outlet location — for safe long-term operation.

Mini-split systems (Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, Fujitsu) have become very popular for NYC homes that can't install central A/C ductwork. We do the electrical side: dedicated 240V circuits to the outdoor unit, connecting the line set/control wiring to the indoor heads, and proper disconnect installation per code. We coordinate closely with HVAC contractors who handle the refrigerant and ductwork side.

For central A/C — typical in newer construction and recently-renovated NYC homes — we handle the dedicated 240V circuit to the condenser, the disconnect at the unit, and the thermostat wiring. For older homes converting from radiator heat to central A/C, we also handle the panel-level upgrades that may be needed to support the new load.

A common Queens / Brooklyn job: customer adds a second floor mini-split. We install the dedicated 240V circuit, the outdoor disconnect, and coordinate with the HVAC tech for installation day. Typical electrical work takes one day.
